Pieces of a puzzle

Strong international and strong regions

Recommendation 1

IAP2 adopts new language to describe the our future organisational model (ie we use International to describe the global overarching body and we use regions to describe the country or regional bodies).

Recommendation 2

IAP2 has a strong international and strong regional organisational structure that can deliver that vision and work to advance the practice of P2/ engagement around the world.

Recommendation 3

International serves as the body for collaboration among the regions, joint efforts that advocate for the profession and best practices for public participation/ engagement in international settings.

Recommendation 4

Regions focus on supporting all members, promoting the practice, country-specific advocacy, IAP2 trainings, and their own training offerings.

Recommendation 5

The definition of IAP2 regions will be flexible. A region can be geographical (ie a country or series of countries or sections of countries. Regions can also be non geographical ie based on language, culture or other identifier).

Definitely the structure and distribution of accountability within the Association needs to be refined so as to direct more revenue to the regional/local (affiliate/chapter) level. Empowering regions to develop their own training and administering the training program will be very helpful in this regard.

In reading through the different strategic directions it seems important that revenue sharing between the regions and international will need to be tuned so that regions can provide value to members and that international can expand the practice. There seems to be much work international will be taking on and will need resources in order to do that good work.

As training will be managed by the regions whilst international oversees evaluation and quality assurance new and transparent systems will need to be put in place.

Overall, an important initiative for the future of our Association and for our professional practice. Thanks to those who have moved this forward.

Agree with recommendation 1 in theory. Would like to ensure that the regions are still identifiable and language used linked to the international body.

I really like recommendation 4, placing regions back in the driving seat for supporting region specific practice, advocacy and training

These seem good. In the spirit of supporting all members, I would find it helpful to have one log in for all of IAP2 because I currently have one for Canada and one for United States.

I especially like that regions can be defined non-geographically ie based on language, culture or other identifier
