All hands in

The Change Process is guided by the IAP2 Pillars of P2 and a set of Guiding Principles.

IAP2 Core Values

As an international leader in public participation, IAP2 has developed the IAP2 Core Values for Public Participation for use in the development and implementation of public participation processes.

These core values were developed with broad international input to identify those aspects of public participation which cross national, cultural, and religious boundaries.

The purpose of these core values is to help make better decisions which reflect the interests and concerns of potentially affected people and entities.

IAP2 Code of Ethics - Preamble

As members of IAP2, we recognize the importance of a Code of Ethics, which guides the actions of those who advocate for including all stakeholders in public decision-making processes. To fully discharge our duties as public participation professionals, we define terms used explicitly throughout our Code of Ethics.

  • We define stakeholders as any individual, group of individuals, organisation, or political entity with a stake in the outcome of a decision.
  • We define the public as those stakeholders who are not the decision-maker(s).
  • We define public participation as any process that involves the public in problem-solving or decision-making and that uses public input to make better decisions.

Guiding Principles

  • We operate in the spirit of collaboration
  • We promote a culture of innovation, creativity, flexibility, and advocacy at all levels of the organization
  • We walk our talk in all actions and decision-making, applying deep listening to our communication•We want a strong international body and strong regional bodies
  • We are all advocates for good P2/ engagement
  • We support emerging regions and evolving practice
  • Members belong to IAP2
  • Everyone is a custodian of the IAP2 brand
  • IAP2-branded training products are repeatable products delivered by different trainers in a consistent way. Trainers licensed to deliver IAP2 training may do so anywhere around the globe
  • All parts of the organization use revenue to advance the practice of public participation – ‘Profit for Purpose’
  • IAP2 owns, maintains, and licenses its core trainings (Foundations, Outrage, and Decision Makers courses) to its trainers and other entities across the globe.
